Meet Riverview Manor's Professional Team

Our team of professionals are passionate about the work that they do. Our team currently comprises of a team of psychologists, an occupational therapist, a dietician, a medical doctor, a consulting psychiatrist and a full team of dedicated and caring nurses.

Vernon Goss

The development of Riverview Manor is my own vision and based on my personal life experience. We consider Riverview Manor to be an extension of the referring practitioner’s practice and keep the practitioner informed of the clients progress.

Donald Whitaker

Hospital Manager B.Soc.Sc (Psych)

Donald lived in London from 2004-2007 where he was employed as an administrator within various departments of the NHS. On his return to South Africa, Donald worked in the sport and recreational field before joining Riverview Manor as manager in September 2011. Donald is responsible for managing the financial, administrative, HR and general hospital functions

André Brink

BA (Hons)(Psych)(Rhodes) MA (Clin Psych)(Pret) Grad Dip Psychotherapy (CBT)(Singapore)

André was part of the Riverview team from 2002 until 2007 and, following a three year sabbatical, rejoined the team in 2010. André draws from a range of therapeutic systems including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and family-systems work.

Maryke Page

Counselling Psychologist. B.Soc.Sc Hons (psych) Bloem; MA (Councel Psych) US

Maryke started her career at the department of Correctional Services. She originally joined Riverview in 2003, opened her own practice in 2007 and recently rejoined the team in 2010. She draws from a range of therapeutic systems including cognitive behavioral therapy and adopted principles of Theophostics.

Dr Leon van Schalkwyk

Dr van Schalkwyk qualified and practiced as a Surgeon for 16 years. He was involved in a ministry caring for the destitute and poor, many as a result of addiction. From 2008 he managed private clinics in rural areas in KZN. In October 2011 he relocated to Underberg to join us at Riverview Manor. Dr van Schalkwyk has extensive experience in emergency and trauma medicine and has a special interest in addiction medicine.

Catherine van Rensburg - Clinical Manager

Clinical Psychologist (BA Psych Hons (Stellenbosch) MA Clin Psych (Rhodes))

Catherine has a broad base of experience in Clinical Psychology, both in South Africa and abroad. She began her training at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital where she worked as an Intern Clinical Psychologist, and later as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Before joining Riverview in August 2009, she worked in Moscow for a short time.

Gill Williams

Pastoral Care/Spirituality (Professional Nurse)

Gill is a qualified nursing sister with experience in Christian counseling. Gill has completed levels 1 and 11 in Christian Counselling through Phillippi Trust. She has been in her current position since 2003, offering pastoral care, Christian ministry and exploration of wider spirituality to clients.

Marian Acker

Clinical Nutritionist (BSc.Hons(Med) Nutrition and Dietetics, UCT, SA)

Marian worked as a dietician in Government Hospitals and in general practice, before joining the team of Riverview Manor in 2006, to pursue her passion for working with people with eating disorders and addiction.

Meg Hofhuis

Occupational Therapist (BSc Occ Therapy, UCT)

Meg joined the team in January 2011 after working in Zululand. She has a great enthusiasm for her profession and the role it plays in assisting the clients here. Her role at Riverview Manor is to provide clients with the tools to prevent relapsing, skills to manage everyday life and assistance in balanced living including hobbies and exercise. She also manages the daily programme and provides vocational assessment and guidance.
